My apologies to anyone trying to access my site over the last 3 days. I’ve had intermittent firewall issues which resulted in me replacing the unit completely this evening. Probably about time seeing as the old unit was a few years old.

For those interested, it started with a 100% drive failure. That’s quite rare but it does happen. I don’t run mirrored drives so that meant the unit was dead in the water. Good thing I’ve got backups … but then the main-board started acting up and on inspection, I found a blown capacitor in the power section. In the bin it went. And on to a spare main-board with a fresh Slackware 13.37 install. A little while later with a config and website restore, things were humming again.

That’s the first downtime I’ve had in about 3 years so I can’t complain … let’s hope this new unit gives the same or better service.
